WHAT IS TALENT MANAGEMENT?

Behind every great artist, there’s a great manager. A Manager is a person who helps artists build and maximise their artistic careers. They can act as organisers, negotiators, counselors, editors, strategists, financial administrators, and more. Managers help navigate the business and strategy elements of a creative’s career, as well as help them find and optimise opportunities for them to grow and exploit their creativity in a positive way.

BRANDING

A professional talent manager helps define and protect an artist’s identity — shaping how they look, sound, and are perceived across every touchpoint. From visual direction to brand partnerships, management ensures the artist’s brand is consistent, authentic, and built for long-term recognition, not short-term hype.

PRODUCTION

Management oversees the entire creative process, ensuring recordings are delivered at a professional standard, on time and on budget. This includes assembling the right producers, engineers, and collaborators — and knowing when to push creatively and when to protect the artist’s vision.

NEGOTIATION

A talent manager negotiates deals with clarity, leverage, and long-term consequences in mind. Their role is to secure fair terms, avoid hidden pitfalls, and ensure the artist isn’t pressured into agreements that trade future value for short-term gain.

CONTENT

A professional manager ensures content serves a purpose — not just an algorithm. From music videos to social content, management helps plan, schedule, and prioritise output so every piece supports the artist’s story, audience growth, and commercial goals.

LIVE

Management coordinates live strategy across shows, tours, and festivals, balancing exposure with sustainability. This includes routing, budgeting, team coordination, and ensuring live performance builds momentum rather than burning out the artist.

STRATEGY

Management provides a clear roadmap for career growth, aligning releases, touring, partnerships, and content into a single, intentional plan. Rather than reacting to opportunities, a manager helps artists choose the right opportunities at the right time.

BUSINESS

A talent manager treats the artist as a business, not just a creative project. This includes financial oversight, budgeting, team coordination, and long-term planning — allowing the artist to focus on their craft while the business runs professionally in the background.

IP & RIGHTS

Management protects and maximises the value of an artist’s rights and IP (intellectual property). From masters and publishing to branding and licensing, a manager ensures ownership is understood, safeguarded, and leveraged strategically over time.

ARE YOU MANAGEMENT READY?

It is common for artists in the early stages to try and seek management support. However, it is important to figure out if you are ready for managers to be interested in your project. Managers are like business partners who want to make sure you are at the right stage for them to come in and get involved with your project.
